Oh man, I feel this. I was exactly where you are about two months ago. Saw some vids online of people unboxing these fancy rug cleaning gadgets and thought, “yeah, I need that.” My apartment is a disaster zone half the time – I’ve got a coffee stain from three weeks ago that I just threw a cushion over. So I grabbed one of those little handheld things (not naming names, you know the type) and spent an afternoon trying to make it work.
First thing that annoyed me: the water tank. It’s tiny. Like, refill it every three minutes tiny. I was running back and forth to the sink so much I actually got a little dizzy. And the noise – it sounded like a angry bee trapped in a tin can. My cat hid under the bed for two hours.
The thing that surprised me? It actually did pull up some dirt. Not gonna lie, the water turned brown. But then I let it dry and the rug still looked… meh. Not clean, just damp and kind of crusty. I honestly don’t know if I used the wrong solution or didn’t extract enough water or what. Honestly I think I might’ve used it wrong. I followed the instructions but then I got impatient and just started spraying everywhere.
After that I went back to my old method: a bucket of warm water with a drop of dish soap, a microfiber cloth, and a lot of elbow grease. Worked just as well, and I didn’t have to listen to that angry bee noise. Plus my rug actually smells clean, not like wet dog.
So yeah, for me, the fancy rug thing was a waste of time. Maybe if you have a massive area rug or a pet that constantly vomits, it could be useful? But for a normal messy apartment like mine… I’d save your money. Get a good scrub brush and a podcast.
…Anyway, that’s my two cents. Hope you find something that works for you.
