ugh, i feel this. i went through a whole smartwatch thing a few months ago and i’m still not sure if i wasted money or not. i work nights so my whole schedule is backwards, and i thought a <a href="https://www.thebestchoiceshop.com/google-pixel-watch-5-everything-you-need-to-know-2026-honest-notes-from-a-regular-user/” style=”color:#0066c0;text-decoration:underline;”>watch would help me track sleep or whatever. spoiler: it didn’t.
my apartment is a mess right now btw, there’s a pile of laundry on the chair and my cat is sitting on my keyboard. but anyway.
the annoying thing for me was the charging. you have to charge it every other day, sometimes more if you use the gps or whatever. i’d forget to charge it before my shift, then it’d die at 3am when i’m half asleep and trying to see if i walked enough. my old method was just… looking at my phone? which i always have with me anyway. No clue why i thought a watch would be better.
the surprising thing… hmm. i guess the heart rate thing was kind of interesting? but i don’t really know if it’s accurate. i’d check it and it’d say 72 bpm while i’m sitting there eating cold pizza at 2am. seems fine. but i have no idea if that means anything. maybe i used it wrong… i never really read the manual. i just strapped it on and hoped for the best.
i also got annoyed by the notifications. i already have my phone buzzing in my pocket, do i really need my wrist buzzing too? it just made me jumpy. plus the screen would turn on when i moved my arm wrong and i’d see bright light in the dark warehouse… drove me crazy.
but here’s the thing… i went back to just using my phone for steps and the clock on the wall for time. and honestly that works just as well. the watch just added an extra step. i don’t know if i’m missing something. maybe for runners or swimmers it’s different? but for me, a guy who shuffles between a fridge and a pallet rack all night, it was overkill.
so yeah. if you’re like me and your life is a weird mess of night shifts and messy apartments, maybe think about whether you’ll actually use it. or just stick with what you have. i’m still not sure i made the right choice… but at least i have a cool little gadget to look at while half asleep.
