Ugh, honestly I felt the same way when I first started looking. I was like “there’s so many bowls, I need a guide to not screw this up.” So I read a bunch of those comparison things. And you know what? They just stressed me out more. I ended up buying some ceramic bowl that looked nice but was way too heavy for my cat’s little face to eat out of comfortably. She kept knocking her food on the floor that’s … not great when you have a messy apartment with crumbs everywhere already.
What annoyed me most? The guides all swear that certain materials are “non-porous” and “bacteria resistant” but my cat’s old plastic bowl from the dollar store never gave her any issues. Like, I’m pretty sure the difference is tiny unless your pet has some weird allergy. One thing that kinda surprised me (though I’m not gonna hype it up too much) is that a friend told me to just use a flat plate instead of a deep bowl for wet food – it made clean-up so much easier. I dunno if that’s actually better or if I just got lucky.
Also I might have used one of the comparison guides completely wrong. I skimmed it while my dog was trying to eat my shoe, and then I bought a bowl that was way too small for her. So yeah… maybe I’m not the best judge.
For now I’m back to using a cheap stainless steel bowl from the hardware store. My cat doesn’t care. My dog doesn’t care. And my kitchen counter has less clutter. So maybe the guide was useful for learning what *not* to do? No ide.
Anyway, if you’re still curious, maybe just try one of those guides but take it with a grain of salt. Your pets won’t judge you if you mess up.
