Oh man, I went through this exact thing last year. I was all set to buy one after watching some YouTube videos… my apartment was a mess, cluttered with stuff I never use, and I thought an arcade stick would be the thing that Last thing— made me feel like a “real” gamer… uh, But honestly? I’m glad I didn’t pull the triger.

I borrowed a friend’s for a week (don’t ask which brand, I don’t remember) and it just… didn’t clikc. The first thing that annoyed me was how much desk space it needed. My desk is already a desaster zone with cables and takeout containers, and this thing was like a small boat. I kept knocking over my coffee mug and spilling it on some old takeout menus. Ugh.

Okay so, What surprised me (and I’m still not sure if this is true or if I just suck) is that my old PS4 controller honestly felt more responsiv for the games I play. I mean, maybe if I practiced for months it’d be different, but for casual fighting games? I dunno. I might have been using it wrong—I never did figure out how to map the buttons properly, and tbh I didn’t even try that hard.

One thing I noticed: the stick itself was kinda loud. Not like, super loud, but there’s a clacky noise that my roommate complained about. Made me miss the quiet button-mashing on my controller. Also, the cable kept getting tangled with my headphone wire, which was annoying.

Anyway, I think for some people it’s useful, but if you’re like me and just want to play without a huge learning curve… maybe stick with what you have. Or try one at a friend’s place first. That’s what I should’ve done. I’m still using my old controller and it works fine. So yeah… hope that helps?
